Thakur Avadh (Om Puri) is a powerful, evil landlord in a remote village who rules with an iron hand. His two sons live a debauched life, knowing that their father will bail them out of any scrape. When they go on a drunken binge and molest and throw in the ditch a little nine-year-old girl, they go too far. The child’s father, Rudra (Sanjay Dutt) is a meek and submissive bonded laborer, who, with his wife Paro (Nandita Das), lives in fear of Thakur Avadh. This devastating tragedy, however, changes Rudra forever – he turns into a ruthless avenger, out to seek justice…
Written and directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, this dramatic film is his tribute to fathers everywhere. The film has great performances from Sanjay Dutt and Om Puri. Music by Anand Raaj Anand, includes the poignant background song ‘Woh Hai Pitaah’. Jackie Shroff and Anjaan Srivastav play supporting roles, while former cricketer Salil Ankola makes a guest appearance along with Anupama Varma and Shivaji Satam.
