The bleak landscape of Rajasthan has been the setting for countless feuds spanning generations. This violent film is about the conflict between a Thakur (Sunil Dutt) and a gypsy tribe, which increases when his only son Prithvi (Vinod Khanna) falls in love with a gypsy girl Tara (Ramya Krishna). This sets the stage for implacable enmity between the two families. The gypsy girl has a son Balbir (Aamir Khan). Prithvi who is forced to marry Rajeshwari (Ashwini Bhave) by his father, has another son Ranbir (Saif Ali Khan).
These youngsters meet in college without knowing about their relationship and become friends. They fall in love with a pair of pretty girls (Raveena Tandon and Neelam). Will the bitter legacy of the past cast its evil shadow on these innocent young people? The film is directed by Yash Chopra and has music by Shiv – Hari, which includes a rousing qawwali ‘Aadhi Raat Ko’ by the Saabri Brothers and a high-voltage dance number featuring Ramya Krishna, ‘Dosti Ka’.
