Raj Malhotra is a lawyer who comes to Mumbai to practice law and realizes that in city people are judged according to their status and not by their talent.

One day in court, he comes across noted lawyer Tejpal and his son-in-law Adarsh. His friend Mohan Pyare tells him that Adarsh was also a small time lawyer but marrying Tejpals elder daughter he had taken over everything that Tejpal owned. Raj starts plotting to fulfill his dreams by pursuing Tejpals younger daughter Sonal and gets married to her, but Sonal doesnt want to stay at her fathers house and moves to the slums where Raj has been living.

Adarsh laughs at Rajs failure in plotting to take over Tejpals wealth and Raj vows to have the largest Bugalow in the neighbourhood with the best of the cars and a penthouse office in the most prestigious office.

Raj starts working very hard but also starts to compromise on his principles by telling lies all the time and achieves a lot of wealth and fame within a span of seven years. They have a small boy and yet Sonal is not happy as Raj is no longer the same innocent and honest Raj whom she loved and she goes to stay at Pyare Mohans house along with her son and wants to divorce Raj. Seeing the tension between his parents their son is very worried and on seeing a falling star wishes that his father stops lying. Miraculously his wish comes true and Raj cannot lie any longer.
