Chandar (Rishi Kapoor) lands up late for every appointment, be it for business or with his beloved, Chand (Ashwini Bhave). On the day of his engagement, he is late as usual and while speeding on a slippery road in the midst of a storm, he loses control of his vehicle. He falls into the river Jhelum and lands up in a village in Pakistan. An old Sufi leader and his daughter, Henna (Zeba Bhaktiar) save him from near death. Chandar tries in vain to bring back his memory.
Meanwhile, Henna falls in love with him and their engagement takes place. On the eve of their wedding, he regains his memory and informs the Sufi leader about his love who would be waiting for him, back in his country. The villagers decide to help him to get back into his country but the path back is fraught with difficulties - especially while crossing the border.
